For the past two weeks, I’ve been gathering materials to work on our front door address sign. I was able to complete the DIY itself, even though I won’t put it up yet (I still have to power wash and I want to stain the porch first), it helped me to feel like I accomplished an integral part of the project.

“This is our home, even if it is a rental. Vienna was only three months old when we moved here and we have made it ours little by little. The house numbers signify that we live and love here, while laughing and crying and making our way as we go through life together.”

For this project I used:

Cutting plywood to size with the circular saw

To make the address sign I used an old piece of 4x12 plywood as the backing to the paint sticks design. Using paint stirrers that I cut down to different sizes using the circular saw, I made a running bond pattern as the background to the beautiful contemporary house numbers. I sanded the sticks down before gluing them with liquid nails and staining them with @valspar exterior transparent stain and sealer in the color canyon brown .

Finished trim, painted and glued, with wood filler in the joints.

I used old pieces of trim to miter the edges and give the wood a finished look using @behr limousine leather paint. I can’t wait to add this to our house when it’s time for finishing touches.

Being able to do this project helped me feel like myself again. While Brian was home for the week for Spring Break, I was able to work downstairs in the basement knowing Vienna was having the best time playing with her Daddy. I’m lucky to take care of her every day, and even luckier Dada has a job where he can be with her as she grows up.

Now, onto the next obstacle…power washing the porch. At least Saturday will be in the 70s just for me ❤️
